The triumphant, trumpeted return of the bloggin'.
I been writing a whooole bunch old school style in a notebook. With a pen. On paper. It's wild. I got two full-length short stories in the works and my eyes could be bigger than my stomach (a constant problem when I was younger, ask my family) but one of them feels a little like a novella. Who knows, it could just be how long it actually takes to write by hand. It feels like forever but reads like five minutes. I'm thinking about releasing one of them in chapter installments here on DavidCake.com. Stay tuned.
The job has been interesting. I was let go from my guv'ment job for constant tardiness. I'm not pointing any fingers (coughJonas!cough) but I don't think it was unwarranted. Oh wells. Three magical, infuriating, awesome months of being Mr. Mom went by before I found another job. By mistake I thought it was some kind of customer service thing but when I showed for the interview I found it was more along the lines of promotion, something I've never done before. My company gets hired by other companies to promote products and services for them. Currently I'm treading the cement isles of Home Depots signing people up for free quotes on re-designing their kitchens or bathrooms and knocking out a living on commission. It's been up and down. The past few weeks have seen a slump in human traffic and my paychecks, but hopefully with an influx of tax money and spring things pick up.
It's a cool job though. All the people in the office are really awesome and I do enjoy talking to a ton of different people every day. I've always had a soft spot for hardware stores as well so it's a lot of fun. The other promotion we do is fun too; repairing chipped windshields at car washes and gas stations. Being outside is nice and the Chips crew is a lot of fun. Hopefully in the coming weeks I'll be dividing my time more equally between the two promotions.
Jonas is amazing, of course. He's getting so big and smart. He has two teeth and the ability to crawl at lightening speed, both of which are mixed blessings. He's like a foot away from walking and then the shit will really hit the fan. My daddy says the first two mistakes every parent makes is teaching them to walk and talk, and I totally believe it. He's really getting a personality, really getting mobile, and really getting better every day. We love him. Like whoa.
Other than that things are status quo. No biking (sadly), a few get togethers with old friends, some reading, music, that's about it. Not terribly exciting by enjoyable. Just like yer mom, oh!
Come back, there may be some real writing soon!
